Harness Deposits and Amplify Cash Flow
Partial payments that match your strategy
Taking deposit payments for pre-orders means you can improve cash flow whilst staying in control. Charge a portion of the total order amount up-front, vault the customer’s card with Shopify, PayPal or Stripe, and trigger the outstanding balance later when stock arrives.
Combine deposits with multi-step payment plans, charge-later, or pay-early discounts to give shoppers the option that fits the size of the order they’re placing.
“This app was exactly what I needed and the customer service is second to none. We pre-sold many of our winter jackets because of this tool.”
Deposit governance: max-deposit caps, fulfilment holds while balance is pending, mixed-cart rules
Controlled overselling,
for deposits
Orders won’t be fulfilled while they’re pending payment, due to fulfilment holds — so you never ship a deposit-only order by mistake. Cap the number of deposits taken per listing or per customer, and set the rules at the variant level.
Mixed or isolated carts: keep deposits in the same checkout as buy-nows when you want the AOV lift, or force them into their own order when mixed fulfilment is undesirable.
"Game changer for us. PreProduct has transformed the way our small team is able to manage pre-orders. It's been a massive operational unlock. The app itself is intuitive, fast to implement, and fits seamlessly into our existing workflows. Oli's support has been exceptional. He guided us through a smooth integration that worked with our current fulfillment and inventory processes, and went far ..."
Communicate to shoppers and sell earlier without added customer service
Keep customers informed and engaged for all orders using Shopify deposits
Maintain customer loyalty while still selling products on pre-order. Set clear expectations with custom front-end wording, keep customers informed with their own portal, and follow up with automated email updates. When you use PreProduct as your Shopify deposits app, communication starts the moment the order is placed; keeping customers reassured and your support team free from avoidable “where’s my order?” tickets.
Need to update the estimated shipping date for a listing? Send out an update email and let customers know they can check their pre-order portal at any time for reassurance and confirmation.
“Run, don’t walk and install PreProduct! We’ve been a very long time looking for the perfect pre-order app and can happily report we’ve found it! The deferred payment options and flexibility are absolute game changers, and better yet – the support and service”
Extra payment options to convert more shoppers
Extra Payment Options to Increase Conversions
PreProduct lets you offer alternative payment options that nudge more customers over the line. Add multi-step payment plans to let shoppers split their pre-order into automatic instalments, or offer a pay-early option for customers who want to pay in full straight away. You can attach custom discounts to either option, giving you full control over how you incentivise conversions.
+ Pay Early
Merchants can offer an opt-in pay early option, which is a great way to boost upfront cashflow. This can be combined with exclusive discounts as an incentive to customers.
+ Multi-step payment plan
Multi-step payment plans let customers split their pre-order over multiple installments. The merchant defines a maximum number to choose from, as well as a discount or deposit to be taken up-front.
A deposit management app that respects your Shopify admin
A Shopify deposits app that integrates with your stack
Seamlessly manage split payments right from PreProduct’s admin, as well as in Shopify. With PreProduct, pre-orders have fulfilment holds placed on them until a successful charge has been triggered and shoppers pay. This keeps orders containing deposits from prematurely flowing through to fulfilment.
Ready to ship? Use our system to charge pending payments and collect the outstanding amount. Select and charge pending payment on the customer or listing level, or opt-in to our auto-charge automation and allow PreProduct to react to your stock levels in Shopify and charge remaining payment automatically.
“So far so good, we have a large catalog and the team was able to help us adapt it to work for our unique needs. Many of the items are a few months to a year out.”

Native automations charge outstanding balances when inventory arrives, retry failed charges, and surface balance-due reminders to customers via Klaviyo or your own communication stack.
Shopify Flow’s 15 pre-order actions and 16 triggers connect deposit lifecycle events to the rest of your Shopify ecosystem. Tag customers when a balance settles, trigger fulfilment releases when payment succeeds, or notify support when a charge fails.
"The app dev team is extremely responsive and very helpful! We are a fast-growing company in the health and wellness space, and so we sell out or take preorders quite often. We also have some nuances to our website that have required tweaks to the app. We always land on some version of the app's settings that help move our business forward."

Sell deposit-eligible listings on your online store, Shopify POS, or any headless front-end. The sales channel manager toggles them on/off as listings move between deposit-paid, balance-due and fulfilled states.
First-party Klaviyo integration powers balance-due flows. Shopify Flow handles deposit-stage automations. ERPs and 3PLs only see orders once the balance has cleared, so deposits never ship prematurely.
PreProduct is easily the best pre-order solution we've used. Beyond the app's performance, the support team is outstanding. They are incredibly responsive and always come back to us with actual solutions rather than generic answers. They made our entire experience seamless and were genuinely helpful at every turn. We are really impressed!

Shopify Deposits App FAQ
Can you do deposits on Shopify?
Yes, you can accept deposits from your storefront with the help of a third-party app.
When setting up the pre-order listing within the app, choose to require a deposit. This will mean that when the customer pre-orders, they’ll be charged the deposit amount straight away, with the outstanding charge triggered in the future.
What are the benefits of a Shopify deposits app?
Your store can offer and collect split payments, making the pre-order process smoother. It’s especially helpful for capturing revenue earlier from Shopify sales whilst offering a more palatable price to potential shoppers.
How do split payments work with Shopify deposit apps?
With split payments, users have to pay a part of the product’s price as a security deposit. Once the product is ready, outstanding payments are charged via the card vaulted at checkout.
Are discounts compatible with shopify deposits?
Yes, both discount codes and pre-order specific discounts can be applied. Although as of the 5th of September 2023, ‘buy X, get Y’ Shopify discounts aren’t yet supported.
Is there a way to seamlessly manage draft orders created from the Shopify admin?
Most deposit management apps do not use draft orders. However, apps like PreProduct can handle partial payments via deferred charge, which streamlines the process as the customer only has to go through the buying flow once.
How do I charge a pending payment invoice
Technically PreProduct doesn’t use invoices, as the buyer’s card is vaulted. The original checkout session is all that’s needed to capture the first and second payment. We have a doc here on how to trigger the outstanding amount, if you’re looking for a way to ‘send automated invoices’, then you can use PreProduct’s Auto-charge automation.
I’m worried about shipping delays. Can a deposit system help?
Yes, by accepting orders via partial split payments, you can effectively manage customer expectations. Informing customers upfront about the split payment charge can help set the tone. If there’s a delay in shipping, you can charge the remaining payment once you’re ready to ship.
Is there a Shopify deposits app with a free plan?
There are free apps in the Shopify Appstore that allow merchants to take deposits and manage split payments. Like most free business-to-business apps, these services can be a great starting point for brand new businesses looking to test the waters.
Do shopify deposit apps allow me to specify a date for auto-charge?
PreProduct offers the ability to vault customers’ card details securely, then trigger payment collection manually on an exact date or via an automation that charges as stock is added into your platform. It’s a game-changer for businesses with large catalogues.
How do you choose from the best shopify deposits apps?
The ‘perfect deposits app’ will depend on your businesses’s unique situation and needs. PreProduct’s big focus areas are customer communication, pre-order management, platform integrations and flexible payments.
Are there draft order deposits?
PreProduct doesn’t use draft orders, it uses deferred charge. As of September 2023, the current Shopify docs on draft orders don’t mention any way to use deposits.
What are fulfilment holds?
Fulfilment holds are a feature that prevent line items from pre-order sales from being prematurely shipped to shoppers. When an item is on pre-order, a hold in the Shopify orders admin (issued from your Shopify deposits app) ensures it doesn’t proceed to your platform’s shipping integrations until it’s available and any payment from customers has been taken.
If a customers card fails and they can’t pay the full price, the fulfilment hold won’t be released for the pre-order item.
